Polity & Governance

Polity & Governance

UPSC Polity and Governance notes — Constitution, Parliament, judiciary, federalism, constitutional and statutory bodies, governance and social justice, for Prelims and GS Paper II.

Polity is the highest-return subject in the examination: Prelims asks a dozen or more questions on it in most years, and Mains GS Paper II is built around it. It is also the most stable — the Constitution changes slowly, and when it does, UPSC asks about it.

What UPSC asks

  • Prelims: articles and schedules, powers of constitutional posts, parliamentary procedure, landmark judgments, amendments and the basic-structure doctrine.
  • Mains GS II: constitutional design and its working; separation of powers; federalism and Centre–State relations; Parliament and State legislatures; the executive and judiciary; constitutional, statutory and regulatory bodies; governance, transparency and accountability; welfare schemes and social justice.

How to use these notes

Read the bare text of the articles alongside each chapter — UPSC loves the exact wording. Every chapter closes with Prelims statement-type questions and a Mains framework.
