What is UPSC Notes?

UPSC Notes is a free study resource for aspirants preparing for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission — the exam that recruits the IAS, IPS, IFS and other central services. We publish notes for all four General Studies papers, CSAT and current affairs, written so the same page serves both the objective Prelims and the descriptive Mains.

Who’s behind UPSC Notes

UPSC Notes is written and maintained by the UPSC Notes Editorial Team and published by HappyChases Media Works (OPC) Private Limited — the same team behind JEE Notes and NEET Notes. Every page is produced and reviewed by the editorial team rather than crowd-sourced, so coverage, terminology and depth stay consistent from one topic to the next.

How we write our notes

Every topic follows the same editorial method so you always know what to expect:

  • Syllabus-first. Each page names the exact GS paper and syllabus line it serves. If a topic is not traceable to the official UPSC syllabus, it does not get a page.
  • Prelims and Mains together. Facts, articles, dates and tricky distinctions for the MCQ sit next to dimensions, keywords and answer frameworks for the 150- and 250-word answer.
  • Static linked to current. Current-affairs items link back to their static topic, and static pages carry a “In the news” section — because UPSC asks static concepts through current events.
  • Primary sources. We anchor facts to the Constitution, statutes, the Economic Survey, Budget documents, PIB releases and standard references, and cite them where it matters.

Accuracy and corrections

UPSC punishes half-remembered facts, so accuracy matters more here than anywhere. Every page shows its last-updated date, and we run periodic sweeps to update figures, rankings, schemes and amendments as they change.

If you spot an error, tell us — corrections from aspirants directly improve the notes for everyone.

Not affiliated with UPSC

UPSC Notes is an independent educational resource. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Union Public Service Commission or any government body. Always confirm dates, eligibility and the syllabus against the official notification on upsc.gov.in.
